I don't know where to begin. I got a job when I was 24. I worked there for almost 11 years. Then the property sold. I was told by the new owners that my job was secure and not to worry. The first day, they walked in and laid me off. My apartment and van was part of my employment contract. So in one day, I lost my job, my apartment, and my van. I had not prepared for this because I was told that I had nothing to worry about. I had to move and start looking for a job with no transportation and 3 children (ages 6 and twin 3-year-olds). At my previous job, when neccessary I would bring my children to work and my employers were understanding. I do not have custody as they are my brother's children and i do not know where he is. Living in a small town, the school knew me and my family and never asked for custody papers. I never needed government assistance. I made a good living even as a single "parent." When we had to move, I had one week to find a place. That was on December 19, 2007. That week included Christmas. The only place I could find on such short notice was a one-bedroom apartment out of town. I really did not want to leave my disabled mother but I needed to move. Now, I am afraid of losing the children because I can't get aid. I have been looking for a job and have been unable to find one. My savings is at $139.88. My rent is $725! I don't know how my are going to eat next week. I have never asked for anything. And all I really want is a job.
